Abstract

Organic contaminants can be effectively removed from water solutions using nano-photocatalysts that are based on graphitic carbon nitride (CN) and PrCoO 3 (PC). The electrical construction of graphitic carbon nitride has an important influence on its photocatalytic action. PC/CN nanocomposites were engineered to promote efficient separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs and accelerate charge transfer, thereby enhancing photo catalytic performance. Fusible green synthesis was used to create the nanostructured PC with Aloe-vera extract as a fuel and a capping agent using the sol-gel method. Effect of operational parameters such as amount of Aloe-vera extract, calcination temperature and percentage of CN was examined on crystal phase construction, grain size, morphology and uniformity. The photo-degradation of erythrosine and methylene blue was examined in the presence of PrCoO 3 /g-C 3 N 4 (PC/CN) nanocomposites under visible light source by optimizing dye concentration and catalyst dosage. The pure PC nanoparticles after visible irradiation during 120 min, exhibit 66% erythrosine degradation efficiency. As a result, 0.06 g of the 15% CN based nanocomposite exhibits a high photocatalytic efficiency of about 92% in a 10 ppm erythrosine solution after 120 min of visible irradiation. The magnetic behavior and surface area of the obtained samples are promising for using them as recyclable and reusable photocatalysts. A favorable optical property, reduced charge carrier recombination, and effective charge transfer mechanisms are credited with the improved photocatalytic efficacy. For effective energy conversion-related applications, our work offers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to design nano-photocatalysts.
