Abstract

Plant phenolics and flavonoids have a great role in eliminating free radicals in the body and act as antioxidants. This research aims to determine the primary phytochemical content of total phenolics and flavonoids of differnet extracts of Hippophae rhamnoides from the Elaeagnaceae family. Total flavonoid content was measured using the aluminum chloride colorimetric method and total phenol content was measured by Folin-Ciocalteu assay. Then, the antioxidant activity of the extracts was assessed by DPPH method. According to the obtained results, the highest level of inhibition of free radicals was related to the methanolic extract of the stem with an IC50 value of 166 µg/mL.
