Abstract
This paper presents an optimal design of rotor pole shaping topology in spoke-type interior permanent magnet radial flux magnetic gear with high temperature superconductive bulks to increase torque density and decrease cogging torque. Spoke-type topology faces some problems as PMs on the rotor require a hub design to avoid magnetic flux leakage. The flux flow route is not the same, resulting in different reluctance levels depending on the source point. Proposed design is based on applying non-circular structure on inner rotor’s surface and using the dome shape flux barrier to eliminate the need for hub arrangement. In this paper the performances of magnetic gear with thinner high temperature superconductor combined with ferromagnetic pole pieces as modulator middle rotor is optimized and analyzed. The proposed magnetic gear including 3 inner and 12 outer pole pairs. Results show that by applying recommendations, the desired objectives are achieved. The topology performance is assessed and verified by finite element analysis
