Abstract

The present paper studies size dependent electro-elastic analysis of sandwich doubly curved piezoelectric micro shells. The structure is composed of a micro elastic core and two piezoelectric micro layers as sensor and actuator. The kinematic relations are developed based on third-order shear deformation theory proposed by Reddy. The principle of virtual work is used to derive governing equations in terms of primary displacements, rotation components, and electric potential. The sandwich doubly curved micro shell is resting on Pasternak’s foundation. After verification of numerical results, the analytical results are presented in terms of important parameters such as micro length scale parameter, applied electric potential, and some geometric parameters of the problem. The numerical results indicate that the in-plane deformation and out of plane displacement are decreased with increase of micro length scale parameter and decrease of applied electric potential.
