Abstract

In the present work, methanation of carbon monoxide in hydrogen rich stream was investigated over Ni/CeO2 nanocatalysts. The catalysts with various nickel contents were prepared by wet impregnation method and characterized by XRD and BET techniques. The obtained results revealed that increasing in nickel loading decreased the BET area and pore volume and increased the nickel crystallite size. The catalyst of 25%Ni/CeO2 shows highest activity in CO methanation reaction and reaches to maximum CO conversion and CH4 selectivity at temperatures above 230 ˚C. The mentioned has highest CO adsorption, BET surface area, nickel dispersion with NiO crystal size about 12 nm which confirms that CO methanation is a structure sensitive reaction.
