Abstract

Ethylene glycol is a very important and industrial chemical that is obtained from both natural gas and coal through methane synthesis processes, where the choice of ethylene glycol source depends on each country's underground reserves. Methods of producing ethylene glycol include direct synthesis from the synthesis gas and indirect methods include carbonylation of formaldehyde, dialkyl oxalate, formaldehyde hydroformation and condensation of formaldehyde. The most optimal method is selected considering parameters such as high selectivity, high product conversion, lower environmental pollution, low corrosion and high catalytic activity.
