Conceptual Research On Opponents Words In Kashaf Annotation

Azam Moeini

Among the important topics of the Quranic sciences is the topic of “polysemy”. Polysemy is used in Arabic literature where a term includes two or more meanings. When a polysemy is at the border of  opposite, the term "opponent words" is introduced to them. Since the views of  linguists  and interpreters are very different about  the existence of the opponents words  and the frequency of it, the scope, which has been identified, varies from a few to hundreds  words. One of these great interpreters is “Allameh Zamakhshari”, whose commentary "Al-kashaf an haghaege tanzil va Ayunel Aghwil fi wujohe tawil" is one of the most comprehensive and most important interpretations of the Qur'an in the 6th century AH. In this study, the opponent words in the Arabic language, which linguists and commentators agree on their opposites and are used in the Qur'an, are extracted from Zamakhshari's interpretation, so that after finding the abundance of opposites in the interpretation "Al-kashaf", we study the interpreter's view of the meaning of the opponents and their examples in the Qur'an.
