Abstract

The optimized protection scheme is one of the most challenges for microgrids and smart grids. Due to connecting/disconnecting distributed generation units and external grids, the different network configurations might lead to some problems and protection coordination constraint violations. It is possible to avoid protection coordination violation by considering different network configurations and operation modes based on N-1 contingency. However, the optimization problem, considering different network configurations and corresponding constraints, would be complicated. Hence, developing a new optimization algorithm is helpful to speed up the optimization problem and be assured about the global optimality of the obtained results. In this research, the presented optimization problem of the microgrids protection system, considering N-1 contingency, is solved using a new hybrid genetic algorithm-particle swarm optimization-linear programming (GA-PSO-LP) algorithm. The distribution network of the IEEE 14-bus test system is selected to implement the introduced method. The obtained results are compared to available methods to illustrate the advantages and contributions of this study.
