Abstract
The area between two main Achaemenid centers, Persepolis and Susa has been an interesting case for historical and archaeological studies. A branch of the Achaemenid Royal Road connected these centers, although this part of the Royal Road was not mentioned in classical sources. The archaeologists have made several attempts to identify Achaemenid residences and travel stations in this region; this book is one of those efforts. A purpose of this book is to present reports of archaeological surveys of the Achaemenid residences on the regions between Persepolis to Susa. The main question is where were the locations of these residences? Whether the Royal Road had anything to do with these Residences? Were these residences on the course of the road? The presented information originally is reports of authors' archaeological surveys that have been done in this area over several surveys in the region. The western region of Fars to Rāmhormoz, whose Achaemenid sites are introduced in this book, is an area of almost 500 kilometers. The survey starts from Dasht-i Gowhar site near Persepolis in the Marvdasht plain to Rāmhormoz in Khuzestan.
