Abstract

Porous nanomaterials are substances characterized by structures containing holes. Due to their extensive porous surface areas, these materials exhibit high reactivity and are of use as catalysts. In this study, a hollow nanocatalyst of magnetic mesoporous copper ferrite functionalized with phosphomolybdic acid was prepared and characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, FT-IR, and VSM techniques that are each separately discussed in the text. This catalyst was used in a reaction to synthesize 1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives through a three-component reaction of barbituric acid, ammonium acetate and various benzaldehyde derivatives. After purification of the products with ethanol, the products were identified using physical and spectroscopic data, such as melting point, FT-IR, and 1H NMR. Also, this catalyst can be recovered and reused five times without losing its catalytic activity.
