The workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Patent Filing

During Research and Technology Week, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Kashan University hosted a specialized workshop focusing on the practical fundamentals of industrial property. Dr. Mohammad Nazififard, a faculty member, led the workshop, emphasizing the crucial role of intellectual property rights in the research-to-commercialization process for technologists and the necessity of safeguarding them.

Dr. Nazififard underscored the significance of protecting intellectual property in today's innovation-driven economy, particularly in advanced countries. He emphasized that understanding registration and management methods for intellectual property, especially inventions, grants exclusive rights and prevents infringement and associated damages in the market. He also highlighted the potential of patents in predicting technological progress and fostering a competitive technology landscape.

The workshop aimed to familiarize faculty members, university staff in innovation and technology, and students with national and international laws and treaties related to intellectual property. The focus was on patenting processes, industrial designs, commercial brands, and geographical indications, enabling participants to strategically leverage patents for monitoring new technologies and business development.

Additionally, the workshop included a presentation by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on the practical basics of industrial property. Topics covered definitions and divisions with supported examples, material and intellectual rights arising from industrial property, national and international laws and treaties, national and international registration authorities, patent processes, patent certificates, and legal remedies against infringement. The event aimed to equip attendees with comprehensive knowledge and practical insights into industrial property and its legal framework.
