Analyzing the sustainability of Behbahan's urban space from the perspective of creative city indicators

Abstract:

Urban vitality is one of the fundamental concepts in urban planning, playing a significant role in enhancing the quality of urban life. It is closely linked with various dimensions such as social, economic, physical, cultural, and technological aspects. This concept is particularly important in cities facing challenges like uncontrolled urban sprawl, social inequality, and lack of citizen participation. The present study aims to analyze the sustainability of urban space in Behbahan through the lens of creative city indicators. This applied research follows a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected through both library studies and field surveys using a structured questionnaire. The statistical population consisted of residents of Behbahan city, and using Cochran’s formula, 400 individuals were selected through simple random sampling. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS and AMOS software, applying statistical tests such as one-sample T-test, Pearson correlation, and structural equation modeling. Findings reveal that the urban space of Behbahan is not in a favorable condition regarding the indicators of a creative city. Particularly, the dimensions of vitality, communication technology, and participation scored below average. Structural equation modeling further showed that the efficiency and effectiveness dimension had the highest impact (factor loading 0.91), followed by participation (0.74). The results highlight the necessity of enhancing participatory planning, strengthening cultural and social infrastructures, and promoting smart technologies to improve the sustainability and vibrancy of urban space in Behbahan.
