Examining the performance of city management from the perspective of citizens (case study of Al-Shaab City, Baghdad)
Abstract:
Today, cities face numerous challenges in urban management. These challenges include infrastructure problems, environmental pollution, traffic, lack of public services, and citizens' dissatisfaction with the performance of urban management. Al-Shaab, Baghdad, as one of the most populous and important areas of Iraq, faces numerous challenges in urban management. While urban management, as one of the main pillars of sustainable urban development, can play a significant role in improving the quality of life of citizens. The purpose of the research is to examine the performance of urban management in Al-Shaab, Baghdad from the perspective of citizens, in order to take a step towards improving the quality of life of citizens by examining and identifying problems and then providing appropriate solutions.The present study is applied in terms of purpose and is classified as descriptive-analytical research in terms of nature. The information required for the study was collected by two methods: documentary and survey. The statistical population of this study includes citizens living in Al-Shaab, Baghdad, with a population of 561,937 people, from which 400 samples were selected using the Cochran formula as the sample size. Sampling was carried out by simple random method. The collected data were analyzed using statistical tests, including one-sample t-test, and based on this, the research hypotheses were examined. The data analysis tool was SPSS statistical software and the map drawing tool was Geographic Information System (GIS).The research findings show that the status of social, cultural, economic, physical, political and environmental indicators of urban management in the city of Al-Shaab, Baghdad is below average with an average of (2.19), (2.17), (2.24), (2.20), (2.405), respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the low average of social, cultural, economic, physical, political and environmental indicators in the city of Al-Shaab, Baghdad indicates a serious weakness in the performance of urban management. This situation indicates that existing planning has not been able to effectively meet the needs of citizens in various dimensions. Therefore, it is essential that policymakers and urban managers put the path of improving and enhancing the quality of urban life on the agenda by reviewing management approaches, strengthening infrastructure, increasing public participation and paying attention to sustainable development.
