Abstract

Solanaceae is a large plant family, distributed predominantly in tropical regions, with 2,700 species in 90 genera and has been used in traditional medicine due to secondary compounds such as phenols, terpenes, tropane alkaloids, polysaccharides and tannins. Solanum, Datura, Hyoscamus, Lycium and Atropa are among the most important species of this family. They have cytotoxic properties and play an important role in the treatment and prevention of cancer of different classes of human cells.
