Harmonic Mitigation in Power Systems With High Wind Sources Penetration by Placing Passive Filters Considering Resonance Issues: A Case Study of the Sistan Power Grid

چکیده مقاله

The harmonic challenge is high in power systems where many wind farms (WFs) are installed due to using power electronic devices. This paper proposes a multi-objective framework with minimising THD index and cost function for reducing harmonics in the presence of several WFs to determine the type, number, location, size, and tuning frequency of passive filters considering resonance issues. Much previous research has focused on local harmonic reduction in a WF, and less attention has been paid to a region with multiple WFs. The Milnader region of the Sistan power grid in Iran has been selected to implement the proposed framework. As Iran's wind energy hub, planning studies for constructing several WFs are underway in this region. Due to many decision variables of the problem, the NSGA-II algorithm is implemented in MATLAB. Still, the normal and harmonic load flow analysis and frequency scanning are performed in the DIgSILENT. The simulation results are evaluated as a set of Pareto front solutions from different aspects, and finally, among the 4 selected optimal solutions, Solution #4 is chosen considering the resonance considerations, which in most of the buses in the region, THD reaches below 1%.
