Abstract In the present investigation, numerical simulations are performed to study the flow and thermal fields of Cu-water nanofluid with first order slip condition in rectangular microchannel. The SIMPLE algorithm is employed to solve the corresponding numerical equations formulated by the finite-volume method. The governing equations are discretized using a control volume approach on a staggered mesh and a pressure correction method is employed for the pressure-velocity coupling. The results show that by increasing Knudsen number, the slip flow velocity on the boundaries is increased. Besides, increasing of Knudsen number in range of slip flow regime has a decreasing effect on the heat transfer in a microchannel.
