Abstract

The application of Iranian golden rectangle in configuration of traditional houses is a subject explored in studies by Pirnia and many scholars have properly pointed out this theory. In this paper, eight traditional houses of Meybod are selected as case studies to assess the hypothesis of Persian golden rectangle proposed by Pirnia and the rooms which share a border (width or length) with the courtyard are examined by hypothesis test for population mean, based on geometry of the courtyard. The reliability of Pirnia’s opinion about geometrical adaptation of Iranian golden rectangle with plans of traditional houses in Meybod is assessed by establishing the hypothesis of H1 (the problem hypothesis) and comparing it with the hypothesis of H0 (Pirnia’s view). The results show that Pirnia’s views are rejected in all three cases; however, the negligible difference between Pirnia’s opinion and the confidence interval obtained in the geometry of rooms adjacent to the courtyards of traditional houses in Meybod indicates that these rooms are almost in accordance with geometry of Iranian golden rectangle, but this hypothesis is ruled out about the geometry of courtyard in traditional houses.
