Abstract

Abstract:
Iranian carpet is one of the most precious and practical human arts that has long been a representative of Iranian culture and ability. This magnificent handicraft has been exposed to damage and danger for centuries, which has sometimes led to the destruction of specimens. In this way, people have sometimes repaired damaged carpets for livelihood and sometimes for the sake of art. However, these repairs are not always correct and scientific, and sometimes the lack of proper knowledge of the damage, the damaging factors and the reasons for its occurrence, the lack of necessary skills in repairing the carpet has led to accelerating the destruction of the carpet. In the present descriptive-analytical research, which has been done in both field and library methods, injuries, the extent of injuries and the level of injuries in Iranian carpets have been studied. For this purpose, first the main harmful factors, human - physical - animal (biological) - chemical, have been investigated and then the damage levels, including lint, knot, puddle and blur have been dealt with. Then, they are grouped into intra-structural, extra-structural and ancillary categories, which are more detailed than previous researches and at the same time is a new way of dividing damages. In the following, in field studies, some injuries in all three groups of intra-structural, extra-structural and ancillary have been presented along with the reasons for that injury. The results show that many intrastructural injuries are related to the pre-tissue and intra-tissue stage, and with a correct understanding of the damaging factor as well as the type and level of damage, a suitable repair solution can be provided without distorting the originality.
