Abstract

This paper investigates the design and implementation of direct power control technique for brushless DC (BLDC) generator. Since in the conventional BLDC generator systems, electrical power is transferred to the DC-side batteries through uncontrolled diode rectifier, great deal of energy may be lost. Moreover, in automotive applications where the speed of the wheels is variable, a constant dc-link voltage is essential irrespective of speed and load. To solve the mentioned shortages, in this study, through the six-switch power converter and hysteresis controller, the output power of BLDC generator is controlled to maintain of DC-link voltage via direct power control technique. Special features of proposed technique are; easy to implementation, low cost and fast dynamics that makes this method to be suitable for many applications. Proposed control theory has been verified by simulations and experiments under different conditions.
