Abstract

In order to hydrogen production and purification, medium temperature shift (MTS) reaction was applied using Ce0.9Cu0.1O2 catalyst synthesized by different metods of co-precipitation (CP) and solid state (SS). CP method was applied using cerium and copper nitrates solution which precipated with sodium carbonat solution and solid state method was done by milling appropriate amouns of copper and cerium oxides using a plantary ball mill for 95 min at rotating speed of 150 rpm. XRD patterns of samples showed that avarage crystalline size of catalyst synthesized by CP method was smaller than sample prepared via SS method (9.23 and 15.95 nm, respectively). Reactor tests showed that CP catalyst showed better performane at low temperatures due to its smaler avarage crystslline size (CO conversion of 57 and 80% for CP and SS samples at 330 °C, respectively). But at high tempretatere (400 °C), CO conversion using CP catalyst decreased and it increased using SS sample. It seems that thermal stability of catalyst prepared by SS method is better so it shows better performance at high temperature.
