Abstract
A variety of synthetic dyestuffs released by the textile industry pose a threat to environmental safety. Existing effluent treatment procedures are unable to remove recalcitrant azo dyes completely from effluents because of their color fastness, stability and resistance to degradation. Bacterial decolorization and degradation of azo dyes under certain environmental conditions has gained momentum as a method of treatment, as these are inexpensive, eco-friendly and can be applied to wide range of such dyes. The aim of this study was to optimize decolorization of Reactive Red 195 dye using bacterial isolate F14. Different parameters such as pH, dye concentrations and aerobic/anaerobic and static conditions were optimized for decolorization of Reactive Red 195 by F14 strain. F14 strain showed maximum dye decolorization of RR195 under optimum condition dye concentrations, pH, aerobic condition 69.93%, 74.53%, and 90.1 % at the end of 72hourse, respectively.
