Abstract

The virtual social network site (SNS) (such as Facebook, Instagram, and Telegram) is a rapidly expanding phenomenon that is changing the nature of social relationships. The paper focuses on the negative (SNS jealousy and partner surveillance) consequences of SNS use for romantic relationships. The objectives of the present research were to explore the role of SNS jealousy in the experience of partner surveillance in couple’s relationships. This is a correlational research, in which from married men and women that use social network sites daily, 223 persons were randomly selected. The participants completed the SNS Jealousy Scale and Partner Surveillance Scale. Results indicate a correlation between SNS relationship jealousy and couple surveillance. This research also indicates that SNS relationship jealousy played a significant role in predicting the partner surveillance.
