Design and simulation of photonic crystal based ring modulator

چکیده مقاله

In this article we have described a photonic-crystal-based ring resonator modulator. The layers structure are consisted of InP/InGaAsP on InP substrate. The device geometry was based on a single ring resonator coupled to one straight waveguide by creating line defect holes through slab layer stack. The radius of the holes was computed to be 187 nm with a lattice constant of 500 nm. At first, the distribution of carriers and the electrical field in all layers is determined by applying various bias voltages and then the effective refractive index of the ring resonator is calculated. Finally, the frequency response of the ring resonator modulator is obtained by a transient pulse.
