An efficient, convenient and facile method for synthesize of nitroolefins

Abstract

Nitroolefins are versatile intermediate in synthetic organic chemistry as well as in the chemical industry also they are used as substrate to synthesize important chemical compound and drugs. 1,5 Development of methodology for synthesize of nitroolefins is noticible to sicentists. Different methods is used to prepare of nitroolefins including direct nitration of olefin C-H bonds with nitrating agent 1,2 or using acidic solvent with nitromethane and benzaldehyde that took much time and low yield. 3,4 There is a great need for new method that can overcome such problems. We present a significant procedure that we used diphenyl ether as an efficient solvent and ammonium acetate as an effective catalyst (scheme1). Benzaldehyde (2mmol), nitromethane (5mmol) and ammonium acetate (4 mmol) were added to 3 mL diphenyl ether. The resulting solution was refluxed for 2 h. The progress of the reaction was detected by TLC, and then the solvent was removed by rotary in vacume. The product was purified by recrystallization from acetone and ethanol. Our new method has some advantages such as non acidic reaction conditions, short time reaction, mild reactin conditions, nonexpensive, simple work-up and excellent yield.
