Abstract

In this study,we aim to report the role of Cu additive in arrays of pulse-electrodeposited Co nanowires (NWs) with diameters from30 to75nm,embedded in porous aluminum oxide templates. This features the role of Cu additive in composition and crystalline characteristics as well as in the magnetic properties of CoNWs. Increasing the duration of off-time between pulses during the electrodeposition of Co NWs made itpossibletoincreasetheamountofCucontent,sothatCo-richCoCuNWswereobtained.The parallel coercivityandsquarenessvaluesincreasedupto1500Oeand0.8for30nmdiameterCo94Cu6 NWs, startingfrom500Oeand0.3forpureCoNWs.Ontheotherhand,althoughtherewasasubstantial difference betweenthecrystallinecharacteristicsof75nmdiameterpureCoandCoCuNWs,nocon- siderable changeintheirmagneticpropertieswasobservedusinghysteresisloopmeasurements.Inthis respect, the first-order reversalcurve(FORC)analysisrevealedstronginter-wiremagnetostaticinter- actions fortheCoCuNWs.Moreover, westudiedtheeffectofthermalannealing, whichresultedinan increase inthecoercivityofCoCuNWswithdifferentdiametersupto15%.Asaresult,theadditionof small amountofCuprovidesanalternativeapproachtotailoringthemagneticpropertiesofCoNWs.
