Abstract

Abstract—In this paper, the electron acceleration by microwave radiation inside a cold plasma-filled circular and elliptical waveguide with metallic rod is studied. By applying the boundary condition on the waveguide the field components of the TMmr mode are obtained. The deflection angle of electron is calculated. The relativistic momentum and energy equations for an electron are solved, and the acceleration gradient of an electron in the fields associated with a transverse magnetic (TM) wave propagating inside a circular and elliptical waveguide with metallic rod for TMmr mode is studied and the results for TMmr mode are graphically represented. The cutoff frequency and cutoff wavenumber of circular waveguide for three different values of radius of metallic rod is calculated. In addition, the cutoff frequency of elliptical waveguide is calculated. Finally, the results of circular and elliptical waveguides with metallic rod are compared.
