Abstract
CaF2:Tm nanoparticles(NPs)weresynthesizedbythehydrothermalmethod.Intenseafterglowemission
with longlifetimewasfoundfortheproducedNPs,soitsapplicabilityinphotodynamictherapywas investigated.SincethewavelengthoftheafterglowemissionoftheNPsfairlymatcheswiththe
absorption bandofthePpIXsensitizer,especiallyintheredregion,theCysteinmediatorwasusedto
bond NPswiththePpIXsensitizer.TheCaF2:Tm NPsconjugatedwithPpIXwasexposedtoX-rayandby
using theAntraceneasdetector,theproductionofthesingletoxygenwasverified. Therefore,thepro-
duced NPsarerecommendedasasourceofenergythatimprovesphotodynamictherapybeyondits
current limitations.
