Abstract

In this research, magnetic solid phase extraction followed by dabsyl chloride derivatization was applied as simple, rapid and sensitive determination of trace amounts of salmeterol xinafoate (SX) in water, urine samples with HPLC-UVD. Several factors influencing the extraction of SX, such as pH, surfactant and adsorbent amounts, salt addition, extraction time, sample volume and desorption conditions were studied and optimized. Under optimum condition, the limit of detection (LOD) of the proposed method was 0.5 ng mL−1 in water and urine samples. Good linear behaviour over the investigated concentration ranges (0.5-500 ng mL-1) with good correlation of determination, R2> 0.9998 was obtained The relative standard deviations (RSDs) based on five replicate determinations at 2.5, 25, 250 ng ml-1 levels of SX was less than 5.2%.
