Torsional Buckling of Boron-Nitride Nanotubes Using Modified Couple Stress Theory

چکیده مقاله

In this study, an armchair structure [1] of Boron-Nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) illustrated in Figure 1, is considered. BNNT is modelled as thin-walled shell [2] as shown in Figure 2 and a modified couple stress theory [3] is developed in order to analysis of trosional buckling. Due to piezoelectricity characteristics of BNNTs [4], a coupling between electrical and mechanical field is regarded to examine potential energy of the system [5]. Based on the virtual work method, governing equation of the system is obtained and an explicit solution is derived for the buckling loads of the BNNT, considering length scale.
