Abstract

ABSTRACT: Prediction of rock mass behavior around the underground structures due to the uncertainty of geological conditions is very essential. Using suitable instrumentation in tunnels, analyzing and processing the data based on the back analysis method can lead to identifying the behavior of rock mass around underground structures under different conditions. Golab-1 water conveyance tunnel with 10 km length has been designed to transfer water from Zayande-rood river dam to Isfahan. The double shield TBM (TB458E/TS model) used to drill the tunnel in alternation of metamorphic rocks with different strength. In this paper the back analysis data including pressure and strain gauges in Golab tunnel and numerical modeling (DEM), results have been used to evaluate the effect of angle between schistosity and tunnel route on the loads on the tunnel. Results show that the angle between schistosity and tunnel route in weak rocks such as Slate has more effective on the tunnel loading than the harder rocks such as Phylite.
