چکیده مقاله

The high strength, low weight ratio and outstanding corrosion resistance inherent to titanium and its alloys have led to a wide range of applications which demand high levels of reliable performance. Ti-6Al-4V is the most widely used titanium alloy that has a good machinability, mechanical properties and it is heat treatable. In the current research, the effect of aging treatment on microstructure, mechanical properties and formability of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy was investigated. Light optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy as well as XRD analyses were used for microstructure characterization, while springback and Erichsen cup tests were applied to assess the formability. The results showed that aging treatment increased the hardness and decreased ductility and formability of quenched sample. It was also concluded that application of annealing before aging, not only increased the hardness of quenched sample, but also increased formability and decreased springback. This was attributed to martensite decomposition due to annealing.
