چکیده مقاله

Background: Drug resistance rate of pathogenic bacteria is increasing, with regards to excessive consumption of chemical drugs. Therefore the need to find new compounds is necessary. The aim of this study was investigation of the antibacterial activity of methanol extract of Salvia glotinosa against some of common standard bacteria. Materials and Methods: In this study, antibacterial activity of methanol extract of Salvia glotinosa plant on bacteria such as; Pseudomonas aeruginos, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Proteus vulgaris was performed by agar diffusion technique and micro-well dilution assay method. Results: Our results indicated that methanol extract of Salvia glotinosa was active against gram positive bacteria B. subtilis and S. aureus. The MIC results showed that methanol extract of Salvia glotinosa was more active against B. subtilis with MIC value 500 μg/ml as compaired with S. aureus with MIC value 1000 μg/ml. In this study, the methanol extract of Salvia glotinosa had not antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginos, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Proteus vulgaris. Conclusion: Results indicated that methanol extracts of Salvia glotinosahas antibacterial effect against B. subtilis and S. aureus. The application of Salvia glotinosa herb after more extensive pharmacological studies, for treatment recommended.
