چکیده مقاله

Based on models put forth to define human needs, social interactions are among the most basic needs of human beings. The need to have social interaction is a must to increase self-confidence, cultural promotion and sense of security. This need to have social interaction, having relationship with other society members, the protection of barriers and having personal space were all responded to in traditional architecture. To fulfill this goal, the public spaces of residential complexes provide an opportunity for the residents to live beside each other, thereby creating a chance for them to interact and communicate. The lack of attention to this need and the lack of potential to provide such an opportunity change the physical spaces of many residential complexes to a collection of empty spaces. This issue could cause dissatisfaction among residents with respect to their life environment, which might ultimately decrease their presence in public spaces as an arena for their later activities. Therefore in this study, we attempt to improve neighborhood relationships in future residential complexes by using the discussions on social behaviors, relationships and interactions between human beings as well as utilizing several procedures with emphasis on vernacular culture. This research also aims at promoting the balance between personal and social life of residents and to attain a high level of social stability. The major method used in this study is descriptive. To gather data, it uses library based resources and field research. First, it recognizes social criteria and then social interaction in neighborhood units are analyzed, and then the features that influence the designing of open spaces in residential neighborhoods are focused on.
