چکیده مقاله
Abstract— The limitations of traditional SCADA systems in monitoring and controlling electrical power grids have led to the development of more advanced technologies, most notably the Wide-Area Measurement System (WAMS). At the core of WAMS is the Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU), a sophisticated device that provides real-time, synchronized measurements of key grid parameters such as voltage, current, frequency, and phase angle. PMUs deliver precise and time-synchronized data, enabling a comprehensive and dynamic view of the power grid's state across extensive geographical areas. This paper delves into the critical role of PMUs within WAMS for enhancing grid stability, fault detection, and power system reliability. It explores the challenges associated with PMU deployment, including the need for robust communication infrastructure, cybersecurity concerns, and the strategic placement of PMUs within the grid. The study further examines the optimal placement of PMUs within the power grid topology, tested in MATLAB Simulink under various power system conditions, including normal operation, fault scenarios, and disturbances. The findings are validated against the IEEE standard bus system, providing valuable insights into optimizing PMU integration for real-time grid control. This study underscores the essential role of PMUs and WAMS in advancing the reliability and resilience of modern power systems.
