Electrochemical studies of corrosion inhibition of (N-salicylidenN',۵-bromo salicyliden)-۳,۴-diaminobenzophenone on mild steel in strong acidic solution

چکیده مقاله

Schiff base (N-salicyliden- N' ' ,5-bromo salicyliden)-3,4-diamino benzophenone (H 2 [sal.5-Br.sal.)dabp]) as corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 6 M HCl solution has been studied using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques. The results of potentiodynamic polarization studies indicate that the extract shows mixed-type inhibition behavior and inhibition efficiency of 98.10 % was achieved with the addition of 10 -3 mol/LSchiff base. Impedance curves show that increasing the inhibitor concentration increases charge transfer resistance and decreases double layer capacitance. The corrosion rate decreased with increasing concentration of the inhibitor and increased with the increase in temperature of the medium. Adsorption of the Schiff base obeyed the Langmuir isotherm model.
