The predictor effect of pain on pain anxiety in patients’ undergone percutaneous coronary intervention

چکیده مقاله

Background: Limited research has specifically examined how chest pain effect on pain anxiety in patients’ post-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Thus, this study aimed to examine whether chest pain predict pain anxiety in post-PCI patients. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 350 post-PCI patients were recruited using convenience sampling. Data were collected using Numeric Pain Rating Scale, and Pain Anxiety Symptom Scale. The data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and linear regression analysis. Results: The mean score of chest pain intensity of the post-PCI patients was 4.48 (SD=2.36). The total mean score of pain anxiety was 40.56 (SD=10.09). A positive and significant, but a weak, association was found between the patients’ pain anxiety and chest pain intensity (r=0.16, p=0.002), and the patients with greater chest pain intensity reported more pain anxiety for coronary heart disease. Linear regression analysis was applied to determine the predictors of coronary heart disease patients’ pain anxiety. Chest pain intensity (=0.16, t=3.11 p=0.002, CI:0.33 to 1.50) had a significant proportion of the variance of patients’ pain anxiety (R=0.16, R2=0.03). Conclusion: The findings indicate that post-PCI patients experienced moderate levels of both chest pain and pain anxiety, with a weak but significant positive association between the two. These results suggest that even moderate chest pain may heighten anxiety levels, emphasizing the need for integrated pain and psychological management in post-PCI care. Future studies should explore targeted interventions to reduce pain-related anxiety and improve patients’ long-term recovery and quality of life.
