چکیده مقاله

The green chemistry revolution is providing an enormous number of challenges to those who practice chemistry in industry, education and research. With these challenges however, there are an equal number of opportunities to discover and apply new chemistry, to improve the economics of chemical manufacturing and to enhance the much-tarnished image of chemistry. Green chemistry is the design of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the generation of hazardous substances. 1 Xanthenes and their derivatives are an important class of heterocyclic compounds, which are widely used in biological applications, such as antibacterial activities, antiinflammatory, and antiviral properties. Furthermore, some of the heterocycles based on xanthenes have found application as photodynamic therapy for destroying the tumor cells. The other useful applications of these heterocycles can be used as dyes, laser technology, and in fluorescent materials for visualization of biomolecules.2-4 In summary, we have described using cobalt oxid nanoparticles as a reusable, readily available, inexpensive and efficient catalyst for the one pot synthesis of 1,8-dioxo-octahydroxanthenes.5 Our main strategy in this work is to develop a facile protocol, low cost, easily available catalyst, reduce reaction time, easy workup, and environmental friendliness (Scheme 1).
